2018 Camp Ride Preview

Coach Kurt is ready to go!

Kurt and I had a chance last weekend to pre-ride the bike course that we will use in our off-road training camp July 20 - 22 and wow! It is awesome!

Being a total roadie, I have had very little mountain biking experience so Kurt thought I would be a good one to judge whether this course is ok for beginners.

The course is about 9 miles long and has lots of hills. Despite having several moments of sheer panic, I was able to complete the course without crashing - yay me! BUT I had to stop often to catch my breath (we were at 9000') and collect my wits. It's so different from road riding!

There are some super steep parts with lots of rocks that I had to walk, but some awesome parts with incredible views of Lake Dillon that made the hard parts worth the effort, like this one below.

There were lots of easy sections that were just plain fun, like riding through woods and meadows like this one:

We had a couple of creeks to cross, some with bridges and some without, but nothing too crazy.

Kurt did a great job coaching me up the steep hills. I had to learn when to "power up", which is hard when you don't know what's ahead of you. Here's one section that I'm proud to say I managed to stay upright on (video on the right).

But all in all, it was a fun ride and Coach Kurt did a great job of helping me through it. If you are new to mountain biking, or even if you are not, come out and train with us in July! We will swim, bike, and run at 9000' with epic views of Colorado's high country. We have a mountain house that you can stay in for $50/night too! Hope to see you there!

Addendum - check out our 2024 summer triathlon camps here in Summit County Colorado!
