The Growler is one of the hardest mountain bike races in Colorado. They have three distances: the Classic (37’ish miles), the Pup (20 miles), and The Big Bad 40 (40 miles).
Kurt and his friends have done this race several times but for Kurt, the last time he did it was in 2016 in 4 hours and 52 minutes. Now, at the ripe old age of 69, he wasn’t sure he could do it again.
He finished the race, of course, in a much slower time than before (6:30) but he doesn’t mind. He used it as training for his upcoming Xterra races and just enjoyed the day (but said it was one of the hardest things he’s done!). Congrats to Kurt!
