Race to End Hunger 5K

by Cindy Dallow, PhD, RD

My friends, Jenny Weber and Lisa Buxman and their two fur-babies ran with me.

I do not like to run 5k’s.

I am a (slow) long distance runner and pushing myself to run fast is not my idea of a good run. But this race…..there’s something about it that I like a lot. Maybe it’s the flat scenic course or knowing that my race entry fee will put food on the table for a low-income family or that I see a lot of people I know there, I don’t know. Either way, I like this race.

This year the weather was horrible. It had snowed the night before and I had been looking forward to running in the snow. But the temperature was slightly above freezing making it VERY wet and slushy (note the brown fur under Bodey on the right) and the dogs very muddy. Ugh.

But it was a great tempo run! I was able to hold a 9:30 pace, despite not running for a few weeks post-surgery. I was happy with that. I’ll take it. I won my age group too - woo hoo!
